Perioperative Nurses Week

OR Nurses Week is the perfect time to recognize the work of these skillful RNs. We've got a couple of creative ways to say thanks!

While operating room nurses play diverse roles and specialize in a variety of procedures, they all ultimately ensure that surgeries proceed safely, efficiently, and effectively and work to educate and advocate for patients.

Because of the critical nature of their work, OR RNs are some of the most in-demand nurses. This means that OR travel nurse jobs are some of the highest-paying positions - and that jobs are available across the country.

This year, we would like to join the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) in celebrating the work of OR nurses and in thanking them for all that they do.

Looking for ideas on how to honor these amazing healthcare professionals? We’ve collected some of our favorite ways to make these nurses feel extra special!

You may have several perioperative nurses in mind to thank this week. We're intrigued by Nurse Buff’s idea of handing out bags of LifeSavers candies with tags that say cute things like, “You’re a lifesaver!” It’s a sweet and thoughtful gift for under $5. Even better if you attach a personal note that highlights that nurse's value and importance.

Another thoughtful gift that makes a difference is a donation to the AORN. Donations are accepted starting at $10 and can be made in the honor of a specific nurse. The honoree even receives a personalized note recognizing the gift! You can learn more about how the donation will be used on the AORN’s donation page. The OR nurses in your facility may also want to propose a favorite charity of their own, and set up a donation jar.

Baked goods are always a hit! Whether you stick to traditional sweets like chocolate chip cookies or get fancy with frosting like these EKG cookies, your contribution to the celebration is sure to be a hit.

Make some cute, personalized awards for your OR nurses. Some ideas include “Computer Hacker” for that nurse that always goes above and beyond with documentation, “Hurt Locker Award” for the nurse that is always able to defuse a tense situation, and “Runway Award” for the nurse with the best style. These are sure to get a smile!

The reality is that it doesn’t matter what you do as long as you recognize perioperative nurses and vital work they do. Give an extra bit of praise and a word of thanks this week as we make sure your friendly neighborhood OR RNs know they are appreciated!
