ER Nurses Week - Honoring Amazing Work
Emergency room nurses are extraordinary in their services to others, and this week we honor their amazing work in the ER.
ER Nurse Appreciation Week is October 5th through 11th for 2025. Here are a few reasons these dedicated nurses deserve the acknowledgement.
Emergency Room Nurses See it All – From Splinters to Trauma
ER nurses never know what patient with what ailment is about to walk through their doors. It may be a five year old boy with the impacted splinter, the horror of a penetrating gunshot wound, or anything in the gamut of the diseases and injuries in between. When a patient walks – or is wheeled – into the hospital emergency room, these nurses deal with
them quickly and professionally regardless of the patient’s age, illness, or injury.
Countless Patients in Every Shift
Emergency room nurses can see many patients in a given shift. Depending on the facility and daily events, a triage nurse in a busy city ER could possibly see a hundred patients in 12 hours. The sheer number of patients that ER nurses come in contact with is part of the challenge of emergency room nursing. They must know how to deal with every patient type,
from newborns to seniors – and deal with these patients in huge numbers.
Jack of All Trades
Nurses in the ER don’t have the luxury of being extra specialized in one area of expertise. Instead, the
Emergency Room RN specialty requires knowing how to do a bit of everything quickly and competently. They can’t pass off a cardiac patient to someone else because they know pediatrics better; they must care for patients as they are assigned. This requires an immense breadth and depth of knowledge. That’s a key reason why
emergency room jobs for travelers are always available and why a skilled ER nurse is an invaluable asset to any medical facility.
A Well-Earned Week of Recognition
For these reasons and many more, ER nurses deserve the recognition of a week of celebration led by the
Emergency Nurses Association. If you know an ER nurse, take some time to appreciate what they do. If you are an RN who works in the Emergency Department yourself, know that you are appreciated, by American Traveler! This is a specialty that is unlike any other, and it takes a special nurse to excel at it.
