Traveling Had Always Been A Dream
For over a decade, Annette B., RN worked happily in a permanent staff position. Now, this Oncology nurse is even happier, doing something she always dreamed of: traveling! Annette applied to several staffing companies before American Traveler matched her impressive skill set with an
oncology travel nursing job in Wilmington, North Carolina. While this newly initiated travel nurse, equipped with a charming southern accent, is no stranger to coastal towns in the Eastern U.S., it didn’t take long for her and her husband to decide that Wilmington still has a lot to offer them.
“There are the Carolina, Kure and Wrightsville beaches basically outside our front door. We live close to the historic River District in private housing that we arranged ourselves, with a stipend. I’d say that since my husband and I came here, we’ve become much more physically active—we walk more, we ride our bikes. I actually bought a bike at the start of my assignment here in August, and ride all over the campground where we keep our RV.”
RN Travels Tiny In An RV
Of course, we were eager to follow up with Annette to see how downsizing to an RV is working out for her and her family. After all, she and her husband are traveling with two schnauzers, one King Charles spaniel AND a cat! Annette laughs and says it’s all been good; that she has, in fact, adapted so well to her travel nurse lifestyle that when her current
employer asked her to go perm, Annette turned them down.
“ The timing in my life is perfect to keep traveling, and now that things are just getting started I don’t want to stop. I hope to be a working nurse here in Wilmington until the spring, and then I’m interested in moving in our RV further West.”
Annette said that going our west is on her bucket list because she is part Native American Indian and wants to get closer to her heritage.
“I’m hoping to meet some of my relatives at the Meskwaki Pow Wow, held each year in Tama, Iowa.”
Annette’s other coveted nursing destinations include
Texas and Missouri but for now, Annette’s recruiter has this traveler more than satisfied with the Deep South.
“So far, traveling is everything I hoped,” Annette says, “I’ve discovered you don’t really need a lot of possessions to feel at home. It’s freeing to roam carefree from place to place.”
