American Traveler is hiring an experienced Psychiatric RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring an Iowa or compact RN license and 2+ years of behavioral health experience.

Details

• Acute care Psychiatric Unit at a Level 3 trauma facility
• Unit includes General Adult (14 beds), Special Care (8 beds), and Kids Unit (14 beds), staffed as one combined unit
• Staff typically assigned to Adult patients but may float between units as needed
• Patient ratio of 1:6 or 1:7 depending on staffing levels
• Nurse aide support available at 1:14 ratio when fully staffed
• Treats behavioral health diagnoses including schizophrenia, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, and suicidal ideation
• 12-hour day shifts from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• No charge nurse or house supervisor role included
• No telemetry monitoring or drip titration required on this unit
• Uses Epic EMR
• Uses BiPap, CPap, and O2 respiratory equipment
• No standard on-call requirement, though occasional overtime call-ins may occur

Requirements

• Active Iowa or Compact RN license required
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN not required for this position
• Strong de-escalation and therapeutic communication skills required
• Ability to manage care for up to 7 patients, including admissions and discharges, without difficulty
• Epic EMR experience helpful
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
• Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify residence location
• Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to psychiatric patients across adult and pediatric behavioral health units
• Round on patients every two hours and assist with rounding when short-staffed
• Unit-specific orientation includes one shift on the Adult unit and one shift on the Kids unit
• Must complete a pass/fail, open-book skills exam during orientation with a required score of 90% to continue the assignment
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
• Manager interview required; no clinical skills interview involved
