American Traveler is seeking a Behavioral Health RN for a night shift position requiring an active VA or compact RN license and prior psychiatric nursing experience.

Details

• Behavioral Health unit within a hospital setting
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• On-call requirements apply only for certain specialty areas such as OT, IR, and Cath Lab, requiring candidates to live within 30 miles or 30 minutes of the facility
• Floating may be required in rotation with facility staff per hospital policy and Joint Commission standards
• Care for patients with anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depressive disorders, personality disorders, PTSD, psychotic disorders, schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, self-injurious behavior, substance use, suicidal behavior, and trauma-related disorders

Requirements

• Active VA or Compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• BLS certification required; MOAB certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Behavioral Health experience required
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Skilled in administration of antianxiety, antidepressant, antipsychotic, mood stabilizer, and sedative/analgesic medications preferred
• Experience starting and maintaining IVs preferred
• Knowledge of crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and managing assaultive behavior preferred
• Experience with seclusion protocols, physical hold protocols, and use of seclusion under legal guidelines preferred
• Experience with voluntary/involuntary commitment procedures preferred
• Skilled in blood glucose monitoring, foley catheter management, NG tube insertion/management, and oral/nasotracheal suctioning preferred
• Experience with Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct care within an inpatient, locked psychiatric unit, including medical/psych and substance use/chemical dependency treatment settings
• Complete up to 7 hours of non-billable orientation modules, factored into 16 hours of new-hire orientation
• Flu vaccination required during flu season (October 1 - March 31), with exemptions subject to CMS guideline compliance
• Facility is smoke and nicotine free
• Expect to work some holidays with RTO approved at manager discretion and kept to a minimum during the assignment
• Previous VHC staff members must wait one year before returning as a traveler
• First-time travelers not preferred; behavioral health travel experience is expected
