American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PACU position requiring prior PACU experience and BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting in a 5N/6N PACU unit with 20 pre-op bays and 24 PACU/Phase II bays
• Staff rotate through Pre-op, Post-op/PACU, Phase II, and boarder patients
• Nurse:patient ratios are 1:3 in pre-op, 1:2 in PACU, and 1:3 in Phase II
• Adult and pediatric patient population with cases including general surgery, plastics, dental/ENT/maxillofacial, urology, neurosurgery, surgical oncology, ophthalmology, orthopedics/ortho trauma, joint replacements, OB/GYN, thoracic, regional pain blocks/epidurals, and bariatrics
• ICU patients may recover in PACU depending on bed availability and unit capacity
• Uses Epic EMR
• Schedule is primarily Monday-Friday day shift, with possible rotation to evenings, nights, and weekends
• 3x12-hour shifts weekly, with pre-op shifts starting at 0530 and PACU shifts starting between 0730-1000
• Requires approximately 20 hours of call per schedule period, with response time of 1 hour
• Weeknight call requirement is approximately 20-24 hours per month and weekend call is approximately 20 hours per month
• May be required to work one holiday shift and one holiday call shift per season (summer/winter)
• Floating required to other pre/post departments within the hospital

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Prior PACU experience required; Level 1 trauma PACU experience preferred
• Experience reading cardiac strips required
• Experience with respiratory therapy equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPap) required
• Epic EMR experience required
• BSN not required for this position

Additional Information

• Provide post-anesthesia nursing care across pre-op, PACU, Phase II, and boarder patients
• Charge nurses typically do not take patient assignments but may when necessary
• Unit is supported by PCAs, typically 5 in pre-op, 2 in PACU, and 2 in Phase II
• Unit-specific orientation includes 1 day each in Pre-op, PACU, and Phase II
• Hospital-issued scrubs required per dress code
• Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility to be eligible for local status
• Previous permanent staff must have a 2-year break before returning as travelers
• Previous travelers who completed a full year at any WVU facility must take a 2-year break before returning
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one year cumulatively without taking a 2-year break
