American Traveler is hiring a Behavioral Health RN for a night shift assignment requiring active IA or compact RN license and prior psych/BH experience across all age groups.

Details

• Inpatient Older Adult Mental Health unit within a hospital setting
• Treats acute psychiatric patients with major mental health illness, including chronic behaviors such as violence, aggression, mania, and self-harm
• Experience with all age groups required, including adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, with home unit focused on geriatric care
• Bed size includes 12 geriatric, 12 adolescent, and 24 adult beds
• Patient ratios up to 1:4-6 depending on unit and shift
• Uses restraint equipment competency
• Night shift schedule, Monday-Friday, 11p-7a, 40 hrs/week
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Required to float across all Des Moines campuses to like units and across age groups when needed
• Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

• Active IA RN license or compact/multistate license required
• Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
• MOAB or CPI de-escalation certification accepted; can be obtained during onboarding if not already active
• Minimum 15 months of experience in psych/behavioral health required
• Minimum 24 months of current psych/behavioral health experience on work history required for consideration
• Recent or current inpatient psych/BH experience highly preferred
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with all age groups (adolescent, adult, geriatric) required
• First-time travelers accepted with at least 12 months of psych/BH experience
• Driver's license required for consideration
• Professional reference from a supervisor, charge nurse, manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months preferred

Additional Information

• Provide psychiatric nursing care to patients with major mental health illness and chronic behavioral challenges
• Scrub color requirement: navy blue, solids
• Required to work 1-2 of 3 winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) unless the unit is closed
• Required to work 1-2 of 3 summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility based on driver's license
• Past UnityPoint Health FTE or PRN float pool employees are restricted from travel assignments at other UPH markets within 12 months of separation
