American Traveler is hiring an experienced Psychiatric RN to float between inpatient behavioral health units and the Psychiatric ED, requiring a compact or MD RN license and at least one prior travel assignment.

Details

• Behavioral Health unit in a hospital setting, floating between two inpatient psych units (N6 and S6) and the Psychiatric ED
• Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (6:50 AM-7:20 PM)
• Every other weekend required
• Daytime staffing ratio of 1:1
• Patient ratio experience required of 1:6
• Cares for patients with anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depressive disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, PTSD, psychotic disorders, schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, substance use, suicidal behavior, and related conditions
• Treatment settings include inpatient, locked unit, medical/psych, and substance use/chemical dependency units
• Cerner charting system preferred

Requirements

• Active compact RN license or MD RN license required
• BLS certification required; CPI and MAB certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of recent psychiatric RN experience within the last 7 years
• Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment
• Experience with eating disorders, inpatient, locked unit, and substance use/chemical dependency treatment required
• Skilled in medication administration (PO, rectal, IM, IV, SC) including antianxiety, antidepressant, antipsychotic, mood stabilizer, and sedative/analgesic medications
• Experience with emergent chemical restraints, physical hold protocols, and seclusion protocols
• Knowledge of voluntary/involuntary commitment procedures
• Skilled in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and managing assaultive behavior
• Experience with blood glucose monitoring and lab value interpretation
• IV starting and maintenance skills preferred
• Prior charge experience preferred
• Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
• Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least 2 years of experience in the previous 3 years
• Driver's license required at time of consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct care for patients with a wide range of psychiatric diagnoses including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, eating disorders, and suicidal ideation/attempts
• Must be comfortable rotating between inpatient units and the Psychiatric ED
• Required to attend monthly Unit-based Aggressive Patient Management training
• Must be able to precept nurses on orientation
• Navy-colored scrubs required; not provided by facility
• No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment; maximum of 7 days RTO per 13-week contract
• Local candidates within 60 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Previous MedStar employees must have been separated for at least one year before returning as a traveler
