American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Tele RN for an acute care orthopedic/urology/neuro unit requiring 1-2 years of acute care nursing experience and a WI or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care Med Surg/Tele unit (7N Ortho/Uro/Neuro) with 29 beds, Trauma Level 2 facility
• Patient population includes ortho trauma, vascular, urology, neuro-spine, and OBGYN oncology cases, with acute medical patients also admitted
• Nurse:patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on NOCs
• RNs titrate drips following prescribed nomograms, including heparin and occasionally nitro, bivalirudin, cardizem, and insulin
• Telemetry techs monitor strips 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own strips
• Charge nurse takes an assignment on all shifts, and a house supervisor is present on all shifts
• Nursing assistants present with varying ratios by shift; RNs carry different vital sign and ADL responsibilities during overnight hours
• Equipment includes CPAP, BIPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy with RT support present; no ventilators on unit
• 12-hour day shifts, 0700-1930, every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Additional shift options include 1100-2330 and 2300-0700 for RNs
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling used based on staffing availability
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units
• Uses Cerner EMR, currently transitioning to Epic

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• 1-2 years of acute care nursing experience required
• Cerner EMR experience preferred due to system transition

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for ortho trauma, vascular, urology, neuro-spine, and oncology patients, including wound dressing changes and continuous bladder irrigation
• Follow prescribed nomograms for titratable drip management
• Unit orientation includes 1 day of computer training and 1-2 days of precepted floor orientation
• Scrubs may be any color as long as they are clean and professional; scrubs not provided
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Candidates who previously worked at the facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
• Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect pay rate
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position
