American Traveler is hiring a Behavioral Health RN for a night shift inpatient psych position requiring AL or compact license and 2 years of acute care experience.

Details

• Inpatient Behavioral Health unit caring for adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
• Care of patients with anxiety, bipolar, depressive, and psychotic disorders, schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, substance use, suicidal behavior, and trauma/stressor-related disorders
• Experience with personality disorders preferred
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required
• May be asked to serve as charge nurse as needed
• Paragon charting system experience preferred

Requirements

• Active AL or compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification via AHA required
• Fit test required
• NIH certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of short-term acute care experience required
• Knowledge of seclusion protocols/procedures, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques required
• Skills in managing assaultive behavior, physical hold protocols, and emergent chemical restraints preferred
• Experience with medication administration including antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and antianxiety medications
• Experience starting and maintaining IVs preferred
• Trauma Level II experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct care and monitoring for psychiatric patients on a locked inpatient unit
• Perform blood glucose monitoring, foley catheter management, and interpretation of lab values
• Utilize therapeutic approaches including psychoeducation and crisis intervention techniques
• Knowledge of legal aspects including voluntary/involuntary commitment and use of seclusion
• Local candidates accepted within a 60-mile radius at a lower pay rate
• Requested time off limited to a maximum of 7 days
• Prior permanent employees of the facility are not eligible for this travel position
