American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring WA or compact RN licensure, ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, and PALS certifications.

Details

• Acute care Emergency Department setting, comprehensive Stroke Center and STEMI receiving facility
• 17 beds, able to flex to 22 with hallway beds when adequately staffed
• Fast track patients through triage lobby, with a separate triage area travelers may staff if experienced
• ED holds are intermixed with the department; ED nurse serves as primary nurse
• 4 designated psych/seclusion rooms for behavioral health patients
• 24/7 in-house security coverage in the ED
• Average of 66 patients treated per day
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4
• Common diagnoses include stroke, STEMI, sepsis, chest pain, psychosis, and behavioral health; pediatric cases are rare (treat and transfer)
• Common drips include insulin, cardiac drips, sedation, and other critical drips
• ED techs assist with EKGs, blood sugar checks, monitor placement, sitting, secretarial duties, and ADLs; some perform phlebotomy and splinting
• RT manages ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, intubation, and ABGs; RNs perform breathing treatments
• Phillips telemetry monitors used; RNs and techs share monitoring responsibility
• X-ray and CT located within the ED with dedicated transport staff
• RNs draw their own labs, with phlebotomy assisting as needed
• EPIC EMR used
• 12-hour day shifts with variable start times (7a, 9a, 11a, 1p, 3p, 7p); shifts typically do not rotate mid-week
• Every other weekend required
• Some holiday coverage expected
• No call or standby requirements
• No floating required

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of recent ED experience required
• Behavioral health experience required
• Experience with EPIC EMR preferred
• Driver's license required at time of consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care as the primary ED nurse, managing acute and emergent cases across a broad diagnostic range
• Travelers may be asked to serve as charge nurse, particularly on night shifts, if willing
• Unit orientation consists of one 12-hour shift paired with an experienced ED RN
• Scrub color required is royal blue
