American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a mixed acuity unit position requiring AL or compact RN license and prior ICU experience.

Details

• Mixed acuity 18-bed unit combining intermediate care and non-vented ICU level patients
• Patient population includes neurological and post-procedural cases (post TNK, neuro IR procedures, embolizations, angiography, hemorrhages/aneurysms, burr holes, VP shunts, craniotomy/craniectomy, lumbar drains, spinal cord injuries, EVDs, continuous EEG, neuro/spine surgery)
• Also treats respiratory failure, CHF, hypotension, sepsis, AMS, acute neurological diagnoses, DKA, and electrolyte abnormalities
• RN to patient ratio of 1:3 based on acuity, CNA ratio of 1:12
• Uses Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs/Resparray monitors
• 12-hour day and night shifts (7a-7p, 7p-7a) on a 6-week schedule cycle, totaling 48 hours per week
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend, with rare back-to-back weekends
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating required to like units/patient locations (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task with a limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds)

Requirements

• Active RN license (AL or compact) required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required; first-time travelers considered with 2 years of ICU experience
• Experience managing patients on BiPAP/CPAP required
• Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, CVP monitoring, and hemodynamic line monitoring
• Experience with post-surgical drains, trachs, and chest tubes required
• Experience titrating drips including Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Esmolol, Insulin, Cardene, Nitro, Levophed, and Epinephrine
• Ability to read and measure telemetry strips required

Additional Information

• Support staff includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, rapid response team, dedicated resource nurse/educator, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
• New-to-facility travelers and return travelers absent 1+ years receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
• Rehire orientation length depends on last date worked at the facility
• Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
• Up to 7 days of requested time off can be approved on the traveler's behalf, excluding facility blackout dates requiring nurse manager approval
• Any scrub color permitted
• Free on-campus and parking deck parking available
• Must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
• Previous permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered for a travel assignment
