American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring 2 years of high acuity PICU experience and BLS/PALS certification at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center teaching hospital.

Details

• 24-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with average census of 21-23 patients
• Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center at a 247-bed teaching hospital that is also a Chest Pain Center and Certified Stroke Center
• Patient population includes respiratory, trauma (including penetrating and non-accidental trauma), DKA, seizures, neurosurgical, acute/chronic renal failure, orthopedic, surgical, transplant (kidney and liver), complex medical, and blood disorder cases
• RN to patient ratios vary by acuity: 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2
• 12-hour day shift schedule (0645-1915), 36 hours per week
• 6-week schedule cycle requiring 2 Fridays, 2 Saturdays, 2 Sundays, and 2 Mondays worked within the cycle
• No on-call requirement; may float to PCVICU, Peds Progressive, NICU, or general Peds units if not utilized in PICU
• Floating required as needed to Pediatric CVICU, NICU, Neonatal PCU, and General Pediatrics
• Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
• Utilizes specialized equipment including Belmont Rapid Infuser, Accuvein, PIV Ultrasound, Artic Sun, Camino, EV-1000 Vigileo, I-stat, and Accuryn

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• Current BLS and PALS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of strong, recent high acuity Pediatric ICU experience required
• Must be comfortable in a high acuity, fast-paced environment
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Skilled in management of critical care vasoactive drip titration and invasive lines (arterial lines/CVP)
• Experience with Artic Sun, EVDs, Camino device (ICP and temperature monitoring), and Belmont Rapid Infuser
• Proficient in ventilator and trach management, HFOV management, and oral/nasal suctioning
• Experience with g-tube/j-tube and feeding tube management, chest tubes, epidurals, and PCAs
• Skilled in sedation and analgesic drip management and Foley insertion/management
• Experience with Alaris and Medfusion pump management and bedside procedures with providers
• CRRT experience required
• Must be comfortable performing discharge skills
• Aseptic and sterile technique proficiency required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Provide direct bedside care to critically ill pediatric patients across a wide range of diagnoses and acuity levels
• Support staff includes a dedicated CNA, unit secretary, 24/7 charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurse, respiratory therapy, and in-house intensivist, residents, and APPs
• Centralized and bedside patient monitoring is utilized rather than dedicated telemetry techs
• Competency to float to Pediatric CVICU will be discussed during the interview process
• Orientation includes NEO (New Employee Orientation) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays, with unit requirement being the eve and day of every other holiday during the contract
• RTO requests are subject to manager approval
• Navy scrub color required
