American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Behavioral Health position on a locked psychiatric unit requiring acute behavioral health experience and NH or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Locked psychiatric intensive care unit designated as a Receiving Facility for involuntary patients, also admitting voluntary patients
• Adult population ages 18-64 with occasional geriatric exceptions depending on the milieu
• Patients present with safety concerns such as suicidal or homicidal ideation, agitation, thought disorders, and psychosis
• Diagnoses include chronic persistent mental illness, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, depression NOS, anxiety NOS, and personality disorders
• Typical length of stay is 6-14 days due to involuntary commitment laws
• Unit typically staffed with 2-3 RNs and 2 LNA/MHTs
• Target ratio of 1:6
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts from 7pm-7:30am, 3x per week with 36-hour options accepted
• Every other weekend requirement
• Float requirement to PEP and GPU units
• No on-call requirements
• Uses Epic for documentation, Omnicell for medication management, and SBAR for communication

Requirements

• Active NH state or compact RN license required
• Minimum 1 year of acute behavioral health nursing experience required
• BLS certification required
• CPI or MAB certification required (not both)
• Epic experience required
• Only AHA or Red Cross certifications accepted

• Provide intensive individual and group therapy in a safe, supportive milieu
• Support patients in developing coping skills, problem solving, assertiveness, self-esteem, relaxation, and leisure skills
• Assist in developing individualized treatment plans addressing life stressors contributing to hospitalization
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Former staff members are not eligible for travel roles regardless of time since separation
• Travelers residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a local rate
