American Traveler is hiring a Stepdown RN with ICU/Intermediate experience at a 3:1 or better patient ratio for a 13-week acute care assignment.

Details

• Acute care Stepdown Unit with 20 beds (8 private, remainder semi-private)
• Nurse to patient ratio of 3 to 1
• Cares for patients with a wide range of medical conditions including COPD, CHF, DM, sepsis, renal issues, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdose, pneumonia, and other respiratory conditions, plus some neuro/surgical/cardiac patients
• Frequent care of trach and vented patients, including Bipap, Cpap, and face mask ventilators
• Manages chest tubes, g tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, and central lines
• Titrates drips including Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin, and low-dose or infrequent Vasopressors
• All patients on bedside Phillips monitors with tele techs interpreting strips and RNs confirming
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour day shifts, 7am-7pm
• Every other weekend required (day shift works Sat/Sun)
• Every other holiday rotation, including working the companion day of major holidays
• No call or standby requirements
• Travel RNs float first, potentially to ICU (with extensive ICU experience), other Stepdown units, or Gen Med, adjusting patient load to match the unit's level of care

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS recommended
• Minimum 1 year of experience required
• ICU/Intermediate (Stepdown) experience with a nurse to patient ratio of 3 to 1 or 2 to 1 required
• Progressive care or telemetry-only experience is not sufficient
• Trach and vent experience required
• Must be comfortable titrating drips
• BSN not required
• Negative drug screen required for all panels (OSF is a Drug-Free Campus)
• COVID vaccine not required

Additional Information

• Charge nurse is typically free from patient assignments unless staffing needs require otherwise
• House supervisor available 24/7
• 2 PCTs per shift, each taking up to 10 patients when the unit is full
• Unit orientation includes 1 day for EPIC training, 1 day with the unit educator, and 1 day on the floor with an RN
• Any scrub color permitted
• Local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
• No radius rule restricting eligibility for the position
