American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN for a float pool position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience and an active AL or compact RN license.

Details

• Float pool position supporting multiple Med/Surg units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, MedSurg/Oncology, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology
• Facility is a 492-bed Level I Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center
• Assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation
• 12-hour night shifts beginning at 7:00 pm, with a 48-hour work week
• Patient ratios typically 1:4-6 depending on unit and acuity
• Telemetry is monitored by dedicated techs, but RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
• Floating required to like units (MedSurg to MedSurg, MedSurg to ICU for tasks, MedSurg to ER/MedSurg holds, ICU to ICU, ICU to MedSurg for tasks, ICU to ER/ICU holds)
• No on-call requirements
• Weekend rotation of every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
• EMR is Cerner, with Epic experience also considered (Cerner required if experience is strictly ICU)
• Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing system, and Spacelabs monitors

Requirements

• Active RN license (Alabama or Compact) required
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum of 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience required
• Cerner or Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with wound care, IV starts, chest tubes, trach care, PEG/NGT, drains, and medication administration/documentation depending on assigned unit
• Ability to perform patient turning, bathing, and ADL assistance

Additional Information

• First-time travelers will be considered for this position
• Support staff on units may include CNAs, HUC/receptionists, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists
• Orientation for travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years includes 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit
• Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
• Facility maintains blackout dates for RTO requests throughout the year, including major holidays and select weekends
• Time off requests can be approved for up to 7 days, excluding blackout dates which require additional approval
• Any scrub color is accepted
• Free parking is available in the parking deck, levels 2 through 4
• Local candidates are not accepted due to a 60-mile radius rule
• Former staff must wait 6 months from their last shift worked before returning as a traveler
