American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Ortho/Neuro RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 2 years of experience and NIHSS certification.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg Ortho/Neuro unit with 21 beds (7 private, 7 semi-private)
• Common diagnoses include total joint replacements, spine surgeries, occipital burr holes, seizures, craniotomies, brain stimulator patients, and traction for hip fractures
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 for both day and night shifts
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 3x12-hour night shifts (7p-7:30a)
• Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat/Sun for nights)
• Rotating holiday coverage based on unit staffing needs
• Floating required to any Med/Surg unit, excluding ED and Behavioral Health
• Telemetry monitored remotely, with basic arrhythmia knowledge required to recognize fatal rhythms
• 24/7 in-house Hospitalist, RT, and Pharmacy support
• Charge Nurse coverage 24/7
• PCTs available for nursing aide support
• IV drips limited to Heparin or Protonix (no titrating or cardiac drips)
• Ventilator support includes Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• ACLS certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN not required for this position
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Unexpired driver's license copy required for consideration
• Candidates must not have any undisclosed background hits

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for orthopedic and neurological surgical and medical patients
• Basic arrhythmia knowledge required to recognize fatal rhythms, though staff RNs read telemetry strips
• Attendance history will be reviewed as part of the interview process
• Floor-specific orientation includes one shift with a preceptor along with Net Learning Modules and EPIC training
• Scrub color is navy blue with a navy or white jacket and white or navy undershirt
• Natural hair color required and excessive or distasteful tattoos must be covered
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates
• Previous permanent staff and travelers who completed a full year at this facility must wait 2 years before reapplying
