American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN - Acute Dialysis with 2+ years of experience and EPIC EMR proficiency for a hospital dialysis unit.

• Acute care inpatient dialysis unit providing hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and apheresis treatments 24/7
• Patient population includes those with end stage renal disease, acute kidney injury, metabolic imbalances, dialysis access problems, and drug overdoses requiring dialysis treatment
• Also treats apheresis patients with neurologic, renal, or hematologic/oncologic diseases
• Department consists of 9 bays and 1 isolation room for known Hep B patients, equipped for telemetry monitoring
• Nurses' station includes a central cardiac monitoring station and patient call system
• Average length of stay is 4-5 hours for hemodialysis/apheresis treatments
• For hemodynamically unstable ICU patients, treatments performed at bedside with nurse present
• Peritoneal dialysis performed in patient's room
• Uses Tablo Dialysis Devices, Baxter Amia PD Devices, and Spectra Optia Apheresis Devices
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Schedule is 3x12-hour day shifts, 6:30am-7:00pm
• Rotating weekends required
• Floating required between 3 Cone Health campuses
• On-call required on Sunday nights only
• Supported by ancillary staff including certified hemodialysis technicians and a nursing secretary

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required in hand at time of consideration
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Must pass a Pass/Fail EKG exam during compliance (two attempts allowed)
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
• Skills required: initiating/setting up dialysis treatment, cannulating AV fistula and AV graft, managing tunneled/non-tunneled catheters, dialysate conductivity testing
• Experience with symptom management including hyperkalemia, hypotension, fluid overload, disequilibrium syndrome, and cardiac arrest response
• Knowledge of apheresis treatment and machine alarm troubleshooting
• Ability to interpret dysrhythmias/EKG required
• Valid driver's license required

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care for hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and apheresis patients
• Perform cardiac monitoring for patients on telemetry or requiring surveillance during treatments
• Manage vascular access complications, anticoagulation, and ultrafiltration calculations
• Administer blood, blood products, and medications such as Mannitol, albumin, and 23.4% NaCl during treatments
• Provide post-treatment access care and monitoring
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; no local candidates accepted
• Candidates must be flexible with scheduling due to a zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
• Compliance must be completed by 12 Noon EST the Wednesday prior to the start date
• No study materials provided for the EKG exam; candidates should prepare independently
• RTO must be submitted at time of application; no post-submission RTO accepted
