American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Critical Access Hospital requiring MN licensure and TNCC/ENPC or PALS certification.

Details

• Acute care Emergency Department setting at a Level IV trauma and stroke-ready designated Critical Access Hospital
• 10-bed unit with 2 trauma bays, separate triage room, and 1 locked seclusion room
• Treats patients across the lifespan from newborn to geriatric, including respiratory, cardiac, trauma, and stroke cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio varies by acuity, with 1:3 common
• Average of 25-30 patients treated per day
• No fast track area; ER holds are not intermixed within the unit
• Unit staffed with 1 in-house provider (MD, DO, or PA) 24/7, no charge nurse on shift
• CNA/Tech support available 1400-2230 for prep, vitals, room turnover, stocking, EKGs, swabs, and splinting
• Respiratory Therapy on-site during days and on-call at night for EKGs, ABGs, and respiratory treatments including vent/BiPAP
• RNs must be able to initiate respiratory equipment with verbal RT guidance when needed
• No dedicated tele/monitor techs; RNs are required to read their own telemetry strips (Phillips monitors)
• No in-house X-ray or CT; ED staff assist with transport, and RNs must accompany all stroke activations to CT
• Both phlebotomy and RN staff perform lab draws
• Uses Epic EMR
• 12-hour shifts, day/night rotating, 7a-7p and 7p-7a, scheduled in 6-week blocks with turnaround time built in
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• No call or standby requirements
• No floating required
• Professional dress required; no specific scrub color mandated

Requirements

• Active MN RN license (Standard or Compact) required, pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS, ACLS, and TNCC certifications required
• ENPC or PALS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Critical Access ED experience of at least 2 years preferred
• Competent triage skills required
• Ability to work independently with strong practical skills, not reliant on ancillary resources
• Comfortable with de-escalation techniques and coordinating with local PD, as in-house security is not available
• Must be a quick learner and effective team player
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide emergency care across a wide range of acute conditions including trauma, stroke, cardiac, and respiratory cases
• Manage common drips such as norepinephrine, nitroglycerin, heparin, amiodarone, and propofol
• Attend all stroke activations to accompany patients to CT
• Up to 4 shifts of unit orientation provided until competency is achieved
• Facility may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
• RTO must be requested upfront; additional RTO requests will not be approved after submission
