American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit position requiring prior travel and dedicated neuro unit experience along with an active IL RN license.

Details

• Work in the Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit within an acute care hospital setting
• 54-bed unit with 2 semi-private rooms
• Care for patients with stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience diagnoses, plus some medical overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
• Nurse aide/PCT support with ratios of 1:9-10 on days and evenings, and 1:10-12 on nights
• Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage 24/7, with charge nurse assisting only when short-staffed
• Titration of drips required, including heparin gtt based on PTT
• House-wide telemetry monitoring using Phillips monitors, so RNs are not required to read their own strips
• High flow oxygen used occasionally for stable COVID patients
• 12-hour night shift schedule
• Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
• Every other holiday required
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required in rotation with staff, primarily to general unit floors
• Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit required
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required (no first-time travelers)
• Heparin drip titration experience required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to neuroscience patients including stroke, spine surgery, seizure, and brain tumor cases
• Two-day unit-specific orientation with an educator, followed by a precepted shift caring for patients
• No specific scrub color required, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings are permitted while on duty
• Floating travelers to the general unit floor take a full patient assignment; floating outside the general unit only occurs for urgent needs and is limited to competent skill areas with support from a unit-trained nurse
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a reduced local pay rate
• COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
