American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week inpatient Rehab position on a Med-Surg/Rehab unit, working night shifts with every other weekend and holiday coverage required.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting with a dedicated inpatient Rehab unit (5W Rehab)
• 10-bed unit with private rooms; 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Adult patient population only — no pediatric patients accepted
• Common diagnoses include stroke (approx. 40%), trauma, ortho, neuro, and a variety of disabilities, with an average stay of 10–14 days
• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (1900–0730), 12-hour shifts
• Every other to every third weekend required
• Holiday coverage required: 2 out of 3 winter holidays, every other for remaining holidays
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Floating to similar Med-Surg telemetry units may be required
• Charting via Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
• CNAs available on day and evening shifts; no CNA coverage from 2300–0700
• RNs may administer nebulizers and inhalers; RT handles CPAP/BiPAP setup at night, RN may remove
• RNs are expected to attend team conferences (approx. 11:00 AM–12:00 PM)
• Travelers may serve in charge nurse roles with a 1:5 patient assignment
• IV fluids, antibiotics, and heparin drips (when transitioning to Coumadin) are commonly managed on this unit

Requirements

• Active WI RN license or compact RN license (must be active by start date)
• BLS certification (AHA) required and must be active
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Rehab nursing experience strongly preferred; first-time travelers must have prior Rehab experience to be considered
• Med-Surg RNs without Rehab experience must have prior travel nursing experience to be considered
• 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years in the same specialty
• BSN not required

Additional Information

• Provide inpatient rehabilitative nursing care to adult patients with stroke, trauma, ortho, and neurological diagnoses
• Unit orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts
• Any color scrubs acceptable; must be clean and professional
• Candidates who have previously worked at this facility as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their application date, and hospital approval is required
• Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be subject to a reduced travel pay rate
• Duo placements are possible but cannot be accommodated on the same shift
