American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Neuro Unit night shift position requiring 2 years of experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

• Neuro-focused Medical Surgical unit within a hospital setting
• Patient population includes general medicine cases with a focus on neurological conditions
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Night shift, 4x12 hours, 18:45-7:15
• 36 or 48 hour weekly schedules accepted
• 13-26 week contract lengths accepted
• Weekend requirement of 5-6 shifts, equating to every other weekend
• Floating required, with travelers prioritized to float first
• Uses Pyxis and EPIC for medication and documentation, with SBAR communication
• Manager-based scheduling
• Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualties

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required (pending license/certs OK for consideration)
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Neuro experience preferred
• Charge RN experience or willingness to learn the charge role preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Skills in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and CVA care
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and peripheral line management
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references OK at time of consideration)
• Current State Board of Nursing License Verification and NURSYS Verification required

• Provide medical-surgical nursing care with an emphasis on neurological and cardiac monitoring needs
• Take a teamwork approach to patient care with a strong focus on patient safety
• Unit orientation is 24 hours, followed by weekly onsite orientation
• Scrubs are not provided; navy blue scrubs required
• First-time travelers will be considered for this position
• Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a lower rate
• Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying as a traveler, with facility approval required
• Current travel per diem clinicians at this facility must choose between per diem or travel status, not both
• RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units with separate schedules and own transportation
• Pre-start modules required, approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles, completed online and annually
