American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Behavioral Health (Psychiatric) position at an inpatient adult unit, requiring Epic proficiency and availability for night shifts with every-other-weekend rotation.

Details

• 18-bed adult-only inpatient Behavioral Health Unit within a community hospital setting
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:30–07:00
• Patient ratio of 1:9 on nights and 1:6 on days
• Floating required to the detox unit and Psychiatric ED, in rotation with staff per facility policy
• Every other weekend required
• Epic EMR experience is required
• Holiday coverage is expected

Requirements

• Active RN license (Maryland or Compact) currently in hand
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Experience with patient ratios of up to 1:8 required
• Epic EMR proficiency required
• Experience administering psychiatric medications including antianxiety agents, antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and sedatives/analgesics
• Proficiency in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, behavior management, and managing assaultive behavior
• Experience caring for patients with psychotic disorders, schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, bipolar disorder, depressive disorders, PTSD, suicidal behavior, self-injurious behavior, eating disorders, personality disorders, and substance use
• Experience with seclusion protocols, emergent chemical restraints, and physical hold protocols
• Experience working in a locked inpatient psychiatric unit
• Experience with voluntary/involuntary commitment and use of seclusion (legal aspects)
• Two professional references required for consideration
• Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

Additional Information

• Previous charge nurse experience is preferred
• Community hospital experience is preferred
• Navy scrubs required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
• Former permanent employees of the facility must have been separated for a minimum of 1 year before being eligible to return as a traveler
• Travelers who have completed 1 year at this facility must separate for a minimum of 90 days before being eligible to return
• Preferred skills include IV insertion and maintenance, feeding tube care, Foley catheter management, NG tube insertion, oral/nasotracheal suctioning, and care of geriatric or substance use populations
• Orientation includes completion of online learning modules through the Relias/NetLearning portal
