American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring at least 1 year of RN experience and Epic EMR familiarity.

Details

• Level 8-23 Med/Surg unit in an acute care hospital setting
• 48-bed unit serving patients with diagnoses including pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-7 on days and 1:6-8 on nights
• PCT support available at a ratio of approximately 1:10-12, responsible for vitals, blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, heart monitor application, bathing, feeding, toileting, and patient repositioning
• Monitor tech located on a separate floor reads and monitors telemetry for all patients and alerts nursing staff as needed — nurses are not expected to independently read or interpret telemetry strips
• Respiratory therapy manages all breathing treatments, inhalers, ABGs, BiPap, CPAP, and high-flow O2; RNs are responsible for monitoring only
• RNs may be required to titrate drips (e.g., heparin, bumex, lasix), excluding cardiac drip titration
• Charge nurses present on each shift; day shift has 2 charge nurses who take patient assignments, night shift charge may or may not take an assignment depending on staffing
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Every other weekend required
• Must work Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling; schedule is manager-directed with flexibility around requested time off
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Floating to other Med/Surg, Med/Surg-Tele, or IMC units may be required for lower acuity patients
• Epic EMR used on the unit
• 18-week assignment

Requirements

• Active WV RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
• Candidate must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Orientation consists of 1 day with an educator/computer system overview and 1 day with a preceptor
• RNs are required to wear navy blue scrubs
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being eligible to apply
• Candidates may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year before being required to take a 2-year break
• Holiday rotation may apply
