American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/IMC position requiring at least 1 year of PCU or ICU experience and Cerner proficiency, working 12-hour night shifts at an acute care facility in Wisconsin.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting with a PCU/IMC/Med Surg unit of 12 beds plus 4 ICU rooms (average census of 8 patients)
• Patient population includes pneumonia/COVID, post-op orthopedic (knees, hips), and fall cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:3–5 overall; ICU 1:3; IMC/PCU 1:3–4; MS 1:5; minimum of 2 RNs in the department at all times
• Team nursing model with RN and LPN covering a combined total of up to 7 patients
• CNAs available when census exceeds 6 patients
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including Amiodarone, Heparin (IMCU), Levo, Cardizem, Dobutamine, and pressors (ICU)
• Remote telemetry monitoring supported by an off-site team; RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own rhythm strips
• Charting system is Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
• 12-hour night shifts on a 13-week contract
• Every 3rd weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday coverage required for 2 out of every 3 assigned holidays
• Low-census on-call/standby required on a rotating basis, with a 45-minute response time
• Floating to the ED for tasking or holding patients is an option in lieu of low-census standby; floating is not mandatory but declining may result in lost hours

Requirements

• Active WI RN license or compact RN license (must be active by start date)
• Current AHA BLS and AHA ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of PCU or ICU experience required (Med-Surg Tele experience alone is not sufficient)
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Two professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years in the same specialty

Additional Information

• Travelers may be asked to step into a charge nurse role; the charge nurse typically carries a small patient assignment
• Self-scheduling model with a facility scheduler; travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill gaps in permanent staffing
• Orientation consists of 4 hours of computer-based training (CBT) and 8 hours of floor training
• Scrub color requirement: any solid color
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Travel duos are accepted
• Candidates who previously worked for Marshfield as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their application date and require hospital approval
• Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which affects the travel pay rate
