American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Med/Surg Tele travel assignment on an Infusion/Oncology unit, requiring acute care experience with IV drips and a WI or compact RN license.

• Acute care hospital setting on an Infusion/Oncology Med/Surg Telemetry unit (8N)
• Level 2 trauma facility
• Patient population includes oncology/hematology, general medical, GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF/COPD, pneumonia, FTT, and weakness
• 27-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4–5 (days/evenings) and 1:6 (nights); ratios may reach 1:7 when short-staffed
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, and octreotide; blood transfusion management also required
• Centralized telemetry techs monitor and read strips; RNs are expected to be tele-aware and can view basic rhythms on unit monitors
• RT available in-house 24/7; equipment may include continuous CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow O2
• Nurse aides on unit at ratios of 1:7–9 (days/evenings) and up to 1:14 (nights)
• 12-hour shifts; primary schedule is 7:00–19:30 days, with flexibility for 11:00–23:30 variable shifts; nights run 19:00–07:30
• Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday coverage required: 2 out of 3 winter holidays, every other holiday during other times
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Travelers are first to float within Med/Surg units; floating outside Med/Surg is limited to observation needs or task-based helping hands, done in 4-hour increments
• EMR: Cerner (transitioning to Epic)

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 1 year of acute care RN experience required
• Must be experienced and comfortable with complex patients and IV drip management
• No oncology or chemotherapy knowledge required
• Travel pairs will not be accepted; candidates must not be part of a travel pair
• Two professional references required: 1 supervisor reference within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from the same specialty within the last 3 years

Additional Information

• Oncology and chemotherapy treatments are handled by internal staff; travelers are not expected to fulfill those treatment needs
• Charge nurse and house supervisor present on all shifts; charge nurse takes a modified patient assignment — travelers may be asked to step into a charge role, particularly on nights, if comfortable
• Orientation consists of 1 day of computer/CBT/regulatory training plus one 12-hour floor shift
• Candidates who previously worked at this facility as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date; hospital approval is also required
• Prior travel experience preferred but not required
• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed, though the facility will make reasonable efforts to accommodate scheduling requests
• Scrubs of any color are acceptable; scrubs bearing another health system's logo are not permitted
• Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and will be subject to a reduced pay rate
• First-time travelers are not explicitly welcomed; prior travel experience is preferred
