American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level III Trauma Center in Idaho, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ER experience and 2–3 completed travel assignments.

Details

• Acute care hospital Emergency Department, Level III Trauma Center with STEMI and Stroke receiving capabilities
• 25-bed ED organized into 2.5 zones, with 3 triage rooms, 3 trauma bays, a fast track area (4 rooms), and hazmat/mass casualty resources
• Patient population includes abdominal pain, DM, HTN, STEMIs, NSTEMIs, stroke, and prioritized traumas; pediatric and psychiatric patients are also seen
• Averages approximately 109 patient visits per day
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4; staffing goal is 3 RNs and 1 CNA per zone (8 rooms per zone)
• ER holds are distributed throughout the department; average wait time from admission order to inpatient transfer is 90 minutes, with hold patients typically waiting up to 4–8 hours
• Charting system: Epic (experience preferred; please indicate if candidate lacks Epic experience)
• 12-hour mid-shifts (evening start times ranging from 1 PM to 6:30 PM)
• Every other weekend required
• On-call may be required on an as-needed basis
• Travelers are first to float within the ED to different zones for tasking support; floating to other units is not required
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active ID RN license or Compact RN license, must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC — copies of active certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
• ENPC preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ER/ED experience required
• Triage experience required
• Some trauma experience required (e.g., MVAs, GSWs, stabbings)
• Trauma bay experience preferred
• Must be able to titrate all critical drips and manage procedural sedation for both adult and pediatric patients, including drips requiring filter tubing and blood products via rapid infuser
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry independently
• Must have completed 2–3 travel assignments at different locations (extensions do not count) — first-time travelers will not be considered
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Valid driver's license required

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include triage, cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation, IV starts and blood draws, transport of acute patients to adjacent radiology, and management of respiratory equipment (CPAP, BiPAP, Airvo/Optiflow, vents)
• RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips
• Phlebotomy is available 24/7 upon request, but RNs perform blood draws on IV starts
• Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 for respiratory treatments and equipment management
• In-house 24/7 security is stationed within the ED
• Designated ED pharmacist available approximately 12 hours per day
• 1 charge nurse per shift; charge may carry a patient assignment, which is more common on nights
• Orientation consists of 1–2 days with a preceptor, including leader rounding, chart reviews, and ongoing feedback
• No blocked scheduling or special scheduling requests will be accepted during the assignment
• Maximum of 5 days of RTO per contract
• Holiday rotation participation may be required
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Former permanent employees of this health system must have been separated for at least one year before being eligible for a travel assignment
