Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Night Shift Nursing Coordinator/Patient Flow Supervisor role requiring strong critical care or ED background, ACLS, and an active DC RN license.

Details

• 13-week contract at a hospital-based inpatient setting
• Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (12-hour shifts)
• 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period
• One winter holiday and one summer holiday required, which includes the eve and the day of the holiday
• No floating or on-call requirements
• Hybrid leadership role serving as the central operational hub for patient flow, capacity management, and nursing supervision across the organization
• Works closely with the ED, ICU, perioperative services, nursing units, case management, environmental services, and executive leadership
• Serves as the primary nursing administrative resource during off-shifts, weekends, and periods of heightened operational demand

Requirements

• Active RN license for Washington, DC required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• BSN minimum education required
• CCRN or CNL certification preferred
• Critical care and/or ED experience required; candidates without formal supervisor experience will be considered if they have critical care/ED background and charge nurse experience
• Experience in a comparable facility size (500+ bed count) required

Additional Information

• Coordinates hospital-wide admissions, transfers, and patient placement across all levels of care to optimize bed utilization and reduce throughput delays
• Manages capacity escalation during census surges and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to resolve patient placement barriers in real time
• Facilitates operational huddles focused on patient flow, capacity management, and patient safety
• Supports perioperative services with post-op bed placement, add-on surgical cases, and capacity planning
• Communicates continuously across all hospital units and departments throughout the shift to align on patient flow goals
• Participates in emergency preparedness, patient safety initiatives, and organizational throughput improvement efforts
• Strong clinical judgment, operational awareness, and independent decision-making skills are essential for success in this role
