American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring prior travel experience and strong ortho/neuro skills.

Details

• Hospital-based acute care float pool covering all acute care and telemetry units, including Behavioral Health and Respite
• Patients include ortho/trauma, total joint replacement, neuro/stroke, cardiac telemetry, post-cardiac cath/surgery, post-MI, and endocrine/metabolic cases
• Shifts may be split across two units within a single 12-hour shift (e.g., 8 hours in one area and 4 hours in another), requiring strong time management skills
• Patient ratio is 1:4–5
• Schedule: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
• Every other weekend required; travelers are asked to remain flexible
• No on-call requirements
• Floating within the hospital is required to meet facility needs
• Charting is done in Epic (required)
• 26-week contract

Requirements

• Active WA RN license or compact license equivalent; pending WA license considered
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• A pass/fail telemetry interpretation exam (fill-in-the-blank format) is administered at orientation
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• MS/Tele or stepdown experience in a Level I or Level II Trauma hospital is required
• At least one prior travel contract required; first-time travelers are not eligible
• Proficiency in interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias required
• Proficiency in insulin drip titration required
• Strong ortho and neuro skills required
• Epic EMR experience required
• COVID vaccination and booster required
• Two professional references required, with supervisory references preferred
• BSN preferred

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include caring for a diverse acute care population spanning ortho/trauma, neuro/stroke, cardiac telemetry, and medical-surgical patients
• Clinicians must be proficient in peripheral nerve catheter management, as ortho floors are high volume
• Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma academic teaching hospital environment
• The facility does not accommodate scheduling requests outside of approved RTO; RTO is minimal and cannot be requested during the first two weeks of the assignment
• Holiday coverage is required: travelers must work 2 of 3 major holidays (eve or day); Christmas RTO is not permitted
• Prior UW Health system staff must have an 18-month separation from the facility before being eligible to work as a traveler
• Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
• The manager prefers to avoid placing travel pairs together on this unit
• Pre-start online modules (non-billable) are required prior to the start date and take approximately 6–8 hours to complete
• Any solid color scrubs are acceptable; light blue scrubs are available on the unit
• First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
