American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a Level 1 trauma center in Chandler, AZ, requiring a minimum of 3 years of recent ICU experience including neuro or CV background, with night shift availability and strong drip titration skills.

• Surgical ICU (Trauma/Neuro Surgery) and Medical/Cardiac ICU in a Level 1 trauma center acute care hospital setting
• Surgical ICU is a 32-bed unit; Medical/Cardiac ICU is a 36-bed unit with a 12-bed overflow unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2 or 1:1 depending on patient acuity
• Surgical ICU patient population includes Level 1 trauma (falls, GSW, blunt trauma, MVAs, patients 15+), ex-lap, craniotomy, specialty neuro-surgery, CVA, status post-TPA, COVID, sepsis, and ARDS
• Medical/Cardiac ICU patient population includes sepsis, COVID, DKA, ARDS, vascular surgeries, on/off-pump CABG, valve procedures, post-cath, TAVR, IABP, Impella, ECMO, and Tandem heart
• RNs are required to titrate drips including propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetalol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, and insulin
• RT staff are available 24/7; ventilator equipment includes Draeger, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60 BiPAP, and Airvo
• No monitor techs on unit — RNs are required to interpret their own cardiac strips on GE monitors
• Intensivist is in house 24/7
• Charting system: Cerner
• 12-hour night shifts
• 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule; night shift weekends are Friday–Saturday
• Self-scheduling with manager balancing shifts as needed for unit needs
• May have 1 holiday off per assignment
• Floating required to telemetry at a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio as needed; may also float to sister ICU units (Medical/Cardiac and overflow) and to a sister facility
• No additional on-call or standby shifts required
• Navy scrubs required

Requirements

• Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required — pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required — no exceptions
• Neuro or CV ICU experience required
• Experience titrating ICU drips required
• Ability to independently interpret cardiac rhythm strips required
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Valid driver's license required

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply, provided they meet the 3-year ICU experience requirement
• Prior Level 1 trauma or neuro experience is preferred but not required
• Experience at a similarly sized ICU is preferred
• Candidates must pass a Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation; a maximum of 2 attempts are allowed
• A pass/fail Simulation Lab on sterile technique (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is required on Day 1 of orientation
• Candidates who fail the Dysrhythmia exam or Sim Lab on the second attempt will be considered DNU with this health system for 6 months
• Unit-specific orientation is 1–2 days; skills validation for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices will be conducted as needed
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel pay rate; a driver's license is used to verify permanent address
• Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
