American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a MedSurg/Tele Neuro unit position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring BLS and NIHSS certifications with at least 2 years of experience.

• Acute care hospital setting at a Level I Trauma Center
• MedSurg/Tele unit on the 4th Floor North, specializing in Neuro patients
• Patient population includes strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery, joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
• 25-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:10-20 ratio
• Telemetry techs interpret strips; RNs should maintain basic telemetry awareness
• RNs required to titrate Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips; PCA pumps also used
• Charting via Epic (experience required)
• 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
• Every other weekend required at minimum; additional weekend shifts may be required based on unit needs and census
• 2–3 holidays required between Thanksgiving and New Year's
• Floating required to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg overflow patients
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Active BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Travel nursing experience preferred; strong candidates without travel experience will be considered
• Epic EMR experience required
• A valid driver's license is required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license)
• Candidates may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI or Dignity)
• No background or licensure hits
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas

• Unit cares for a culturally diverse patient population, including Spanish-, Karen-, and Burmese-speaking patients
• Mechanical lifts are available in every other room
• Strong emphasis on hourly rounding and responsiveness
• This unit typically has multiple discharges and admissions daily; ideal candidates can manage a high-volume, fast-paced environment while remaining team-oriented and patient-focused
• A charge nurse is present on each shift and carries an assignment
• 2 days of unit/department-specific orientation provided
• RNs must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; failure to pass results in termination
• Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
• Limited block scheduling may be approved
• First-time travelers will be considered if they are strong candidates
