American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Newborn Nursery position in Florence, AL, requiring a minimum of 5 years of experience and NRP, BLS, and STABLE certifications.

• Work on the 3rd floor Nursery/Special Care Nursery (SCN) unit of an acute care hospital setting
• Specialty covers both Well Baby Nursery and Special Care Nursery Level 2
• Patient population includes neonates and postpartum adult patients
• Patient ratios are 1:5-6 for well baby and 1:1-3 for Special Care Nursery
• 21-bed unit
• Nightshift schedule, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (19:00–07:00)
• Minimum of 2 weekends per 6-week pay period required
• No on-call requirements
• Equipment includes Giraffe Isolette, Panda Warmer, Newborn ALGO 5 hearing equipment, State Newborn Screening, Phototherapy, and NewBaby Infant Safety Security System
• EHR systems used: Centricity and Meditech (experience preferred)
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active AL RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
• Minimum 5 years of newborn nursery or related RN experience required
• Required certifications: NRP, BLS (AHA), and STABLE
• AHA-issued certifications are required
• Skills required: newborn assessment and thermoregulation management, newborn weight and feeding assessments, glucose monitoring, circumcision care and post-procedure monitoring, bilirubin management and phototherapy, newborn hearing screening, PKU/metabolic screening, cord care and umbilical cord assessment, and family education (breastfeeding support, safe sleep, car seat safety)
• Social Security number and date of birth required for consideration
• Cannot be employed elsewhere full time

Additional Information

• Attends all vaginal and cesarean section deliveries
• Common diagnoses include hyperbilirubinemia, hypoglycemia, temperature instability, late preterm infant monitoring, feeding difficulties/poor latch, suspected sepsis/rule out infection, and respiratory transitions
• Prior newborn or mother-baby experience is strongly preferred
• Familiarity with current AAP guidelines is preferred
• Collaborates closely with L&D and Postpartum teams
• Navy scrubs required; open-toe shoes, sandals, street clothes worn in lieu of scrubs, ill-fitting clothing, and long artificial or gel nails are not permitted
• Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Candidates who have worked as permanent staff at any LifePoint facility within the last 12 months are not eligible
