American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown position at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications and experience managing titratable drips.

• Acute care hospital setting on a 32-bed Cardiac Stepdown/Step-down unit (22 stepdown beds and 10 floor beds)
• Patient population includes cardiology, heart failure, cardiac surgery, and medicine/hospitalist (med-surg) cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3 on the stepdown side and 1:5 or 1:6 on the floor side
• RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin, insulin, nitroglycerin, Cardizem, nicardipine, Lasix, amiodarone, and dobutamine
• Respiratory support equipment in use includes nasal cannula, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, and trach-to-vent; a dedicated RT is assigned to the floor
• Telemetry monitoring is handled by tele techs on adjacent units using Philips monitoring systems
• EMR system is Epic
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, with weekend and holiday coverage as scheduled
• Weekend shifts required: 3–4 Saturday/Sunday shifts, 2 Fridays, and 2 Mondays per 4-week scheduling period
• Holiday coverage required for one of each: Black Friday or Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Travelers are first to float if needed; rotation to the floor assignment occurs approximately 1 out of every 3 shifts
• Self-scheduling via Kronos with block scheduling generally permitted
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV RN license or compact RN license required (willing to wait for licensure)
• Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Cardiac experience strongly preferred
• Proficiency with Epic EMR preferred
• Must disclose any license hits at the time of consideration
• Submission packet must include: 7 years of work history (or from graduation, whichever is less) with no gaps greater than 30 days, hospital size, unit size, trauma level, and teaching facility status noted for each position
• Two professional references required: one supervisor reference (must be from a permanent facility if worked perm within the last 12 months) and one peer or additional supervisor reference
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required
• Copies of certifications and driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Royal blue scrubs required
• Unit-specific orientation is provided
• A dedicated charge nurse is assigned per shift; three house supervisors are in the building at all times
• Clinical associates are on the unit, typically 2 overnight and up to 4 when fully staffed
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
• Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU Medicine facility at a time
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine for longer than one cumulative year before a 2-year break is required
• All candidates will interview directly with the unit manager
