American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU position at a Magnet-designated Level II Trauma Center in Milwaukee, WI, requiring at least 3 years of ICU experience including 1 year in a CVICU setting.

• Work in a 30-bed CVICU unit at a 933-bed, Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma Center in Milwaukee, WI
• Patient population includes complex cardiac surgical cases such as post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs/replacements, and heart transplants, as well as thoracic surgeries (esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy) and vascular procedures (AAA, TVAR, carotid endarterectomy)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 for highest acuity, 1:2 for regular ICU status, and 1:3 for mixed status
• Tech support ratio is 1:8–10; phlebotomy available to assist with peripheral blood draws
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, with night shift availability (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation every third weekend
• No on-call requirements
• Holiday coverage required for 1–2 holidays per contract
• Floating may be required to ED Holding, other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU (1:3 ratio), Sitter, or PACU Surge
• EMR: Epic (experience required)

Requirements

• Active WI or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
• Minimum 3 years of ICU experience, including at least 1 year of CVICU experience, with most recent experience within the last year
• Competency in invasive line monitoring including Swan-Ganz catheters and arterial lines
• Experience with pacemakers (epicardial and transvenous), chest tubes, and ventilator/trach management
• Proficiency with cardiac medications including inotropes, vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
• Strong cardiac rhythm interpretation skills
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with CV surgical support devices such as ECMO, CVVH, IABP, or VAD is strongly preferred
• At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration
• Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Dedicated 24/7 support includes a CVICU Intensivist, General Intensivist, CT Surgeon on call, Hospitalist, charge nurse (rarely with patient assignment), HUC, and ICU-designated respiratory therapist
• Bedside and nurses' station telemetry monitoring available; no dedicated tele tech
• Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors
• Note: RNs may draw blood from invasive lines but are not permitted to perform peripheral sticks
• Orientation consists of 1 day: 2–4 hours of nursing education/onboarding followed by unit placement with a preceptor
• Scheduling follows a 6-week cycle; schedule is provided 1–2 weeks before the cycle begins
• Facility fatigue policy limits all staff, including travelers, to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
• RTO of up to 7 days may be approved per contract
• Scrubs must be a solid color with no graphics, logos, or designs
• Free parking available; daytime parking is 1–2 blocks away with shuttle service; nighttime parking is in an attached structure
