American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Director of Nursing (DON) role at a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital in South Dakota, requiring a BSN, 7+ years of clinical experience, and healthcare management experience.

• Acute care setting at a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital (CAH) located in South Dakota along the Missouri River
• Oversees all nursing departments including ER, Med Surg, OR, OB, Critical Care, Ambulatory Care, Trauma, Cardiac Rehab, Respiratory, Telehealth, and more
• Patient population is primarily ER, Med Surg, OB, and Critical Care; facility sees approximately 5,000 ER visits annually
• Average daily census of 8; serves two Native American reservations and three surrounding counties
• Manages approximately 80 direct reports, including a dedicated administrative assistant
• OR scheduled surgeries occur Monday and Tuesday; on-call surgery team handles C-sections as needed 24/7
• Telehealth services are a significant focus given the rural community served
• Day shift, 8-hour shifts, as needed
• 13-week contract
• EMR: Epic

Requirements

• Active RN license in South Dakota or a Compact state required
• BSN required
• Minimum 7 years of clinical patient care experience in a relevant setting
• Minimum 7–10 years of healthcare management experience
• Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NRP, and TNCC
• Knowledge in OB, Med Surg, and ER; or willingness to learn these areas
• Experience managing clinical staff
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
• 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from the position's specialty within the last 3 years
• Copies of all certifications must be active at time of consideration — no pending certifications accepted
• License must be active at time of consideration
