American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU position requiring cardiac surgery and critical care expertise, with every other weekend availability.

Details

• Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) setting within an acute care hospital
• Patient population includes adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, vascular, and thoracic diagnoses including CABG, valve surgery, CABG/valve combined procedures, CAD (STEMI/NSTEMI), AFib with RVR, cardiogenic shock, peripheral bypasses, EVAR, and VATS
• Unit has 8 beds with an average daily census of 6
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 in CVICU/CCRU; ratio adjusts to 1:3 if floated to IMC (lower acuity)
• Specialized procedures include immediate post-op cardiac surgery care, 1:1 monitoring for the first 12 hours post-op, vent management with respiratory therapy, Flo Trac, CRRT, IABP, Impella, and groin/radial artery management (fem stop, TR bands)
• Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (07:30–20:00)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required within the specialty, including to IMC and lower acuity units as needed
• No on-call scheduled shifts required
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active RN license in the state of Maryland (or compact license with MD as primary state) currently in hand
• Current certifications: BLS and ACLS
• Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience required; first-time travelers considered with 2+ years of extensive CVICU/open heart experience
• Experience with advanced cardiac devices and procedures including IABP, Impella, CRRT, and vent management strongly implied by unit scope

Additional Information

• Provides immediate post-operative care for cardiac surgery patients, including 1:1 nursing care during the first 12 hours post-op
• Holiday coverage required as holidays fall within the assigned schedule
• First-time travelers will be considered for this position provided they have 2+ years of extensive CVICU and open heart surgery experience
