American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Med/Surg position requiring 2 years of Med/Surg experience, BSN, and Epic proficiency in an acute care hospital setting in Meridian, ID.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit (6th floor) in a hospital setting with 42 beds
• Primarily medical patient population including respiratory, GI, and behavioral health; some surgical overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, with occasional 1:6
• Common drips include heparin, PCAs, and morphine; titration of drips is not required
• RT manages CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen equipment
• Telemetry monitoring via SpaceLabs (transitioning to Philips); RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips
• EMR: Epic — experience required
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
• 5 weekend shifts per 6-week period
• Holiday coverage required based on unit need
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Travelers are first to float; floating may occur between MedSurg 5, MedSurg 6, and like units at nearby facilities approximately 8 miles away, including to the ER for holds

Requirements

• Active Idaho RN license or compact RN license required — must be active at time of consideration, pending licenses not accepted
• BSN required
• Current BLS certification required — pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Valid driver's license required
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible

Additional Information

• Charge nurse is present on every shift and rarely takes a patient load; day shift also has an ADT nurse to assist with admissions, discharges, and tasking
• Nurse aides/PCTs are available on the unit at a 1:8 ratio
• Orientation includes 3 days of general orientation (Epic training and educator meeting), online modules to complete prior to start, and 2 precepted shifts on the unit
• Candidates must be willing to accept nursing students and may be asked to precept new travelers
• No block scheduling or special scheduling requests will be accepted
• Former permanent employees must have been separated for at least one year before being eligible for a travel assignment at this facility
• Scrubs must be clean and professional in appearance; any color is acceptable
