American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Infectious Disease unit, requiring 2 years of experience and a WV or compact RN license for a 13-week night shift assignment.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit specializing in infectious disease, isolation, and immunocompromised patient populations
• Common diagnoses include COVID, MRSA, C-Diff, and other infectious/isolation conditions
• 18-bed unit with all private rooms
• Patient ratios are 1:5-6 (1:4 for COVID patients), with typically 3-4 RNs per shift
• 2 CNAs per shift provide support
• Charge nurse coverage 24/7; night charge carries a full patient assignment
• Remote telemetry monitored from the 3rd floor — RNs are not required to read or interpret strips
• Patients may be on CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow oxygen, managed by Respiratory Therapy
• No cardiac drips; IV medications include Heparin, antibiotics, and standard Med/Surg infusions
• EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM with a 30-minute lunch break
• Every-other-weekend requirement; night weekend shifts are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Travelers are scheduled based on unit needs; block scheduling is permitted when unit needs are met
• Floating to other Med/Surg units required, with travelers floating first; if floated to Tele, assignments will match skill set

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• Strong Med/Surg background with experience in infectious disease and isolation precautions
• Valid driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of 1 day of Epic training, 1 day on the floor with a preceptor, and independent practice beginning on day 3
• Holiday coverage may be required depending on unit staffing needs
• Dress code: royal blue scrubs; scrub jackets must be royal blue — no hoodies or sweat jackets
• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from this facility to be eligible
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before returning
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break
