American Traveler is seeking an experienced Oncology Nurse Navigator/Coordinator with a minimum of 3 years of acute oncology experience and a BSN-RN for a 13-week travel contract in a high-volume GI oncology setting.

Details

• Day shift schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
• Outpatient oncology setting focused on GI cancer patients
• Serves as the primary point of contact for newly diagnosed GI oncology patients from initial referral through the start of treatment
• Daily referral volume varies, ranging from 2–3 to 10 new patient referrals per day
• Works alongside a team of 5 primary GI medical oncologists, 2 rotating radiation oncologists, and 3–4 surgeons (who have their own dedicated coordinators)
• No on-call or holiday coverage requirements

Requirements

• Active VA or Compact RN license required
• BSN required
• Current BLS certification required
• OCN certification preferred
• Minimum 3 years of acute oncology experience required
• Prior nurse navigator or nurse coordinator experience preferred
• Outpatient and GI oncology experience preferred
• Candidates must have experience beyond clinic-only settings
• Must be highly organized with the ability to triage, delegate, and manage a high-volume, fast-paced workload
• Proficiency with spreadsheets for patient tracking required

Additional Information

• Role focuses on care coordination rather than direct patient care — responsibilities include scheduling appointments, coordinating ports, echos, and chemo cycles, reviewing charts, identifying imaging needs, and addressing documentation gaps
• Serves as patient liaison through the pre-treatment phase, handing off to the clinic nurse once the patient is ready to begin treatment
• Participates in tumor board, multi-disciplinary case management, and case conference coordination
• Travelers will not work alone and will have support from 3 GI nurse navigators on staff
• Orientation is 1–2 weeks with patient coordinators and other navigators available for support
• Navy scrubs or business casual attire required
