American Traveler is seeking an experienced ED RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract at a small acute care facility in Arizona, requiring active AZ or compact RN licensure and a minimum of 2 years of ED experience.

Details

• Small acute care facility emergency department setting
• 12-bed ED unit with lower acuity patients (ESI 3-4), including abdominal pain, headache, and stabilize-and-transfer critically ill cases
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Charge nurse role available with no patient assignment unless census exceeds 20; supported by PCTs and Paramedics
• EMR: Cerner
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a or 6p-6a)
• 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period (2 weekends per month)
• Holiday coverage based on unit needs
• Float required to Litchfield FSED and Glendale FSED; no float to main campus unless acuity warrants
• Pharmacy available on-site 6a–5p; nights covered via main campus
• Phillips telemetry system in use
• 2-day floor-specific orientation

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of ED/ER nursing experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted
• No trauma level experience required
• BSN not required
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
• Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to accepting an offer (2 attempts allowed)
• Competency in sterile field technique required, including Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath insertion
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Driver's license required for consideration
• Must have personal vehicle for travel between float sites

Additional Information

• RNs are responsible for performing labs, EKGs, patient transport, and transfers
• Pass/fail skills assessment on Day 1 of orientation covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath insertion — study guide provided; nurses have been dismissed during this lab for breaking sterile field
• Additional orientation covers lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational only)
• Candidates who were directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• Failure of the Relias DYS exam on both attempts results in a 6-month ineligibility period for all CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento-region facilities
• Scrub color: Navy
• Natural hair color required; no facial piercings permitted
• Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
• Holiday coverage required based on unit scheduling needs
