American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Cardiac Stepdown (CVU) position at a Level 1 Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring at least 1 year of cardiac/vascular stepdown experience and active NE or Compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care stepdown unit (CVU) in a Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
• 18-bed unit serving intermediate care patients and downgraded CVICU patients, with a heavy focus on thoracic surgery, EP, cath lab, and structural heart programs
• Common diagnoses include CVA, CHF, A-fib with RVR, cath lab patients, and other cardiac and vascular conditions
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients within the first 24 hours
• Charge nurse present on each shift; charge nurse rarely takes a patient assignment
• PCTs available with a 1:18 ratio
• Hospitalist and intensivist in-house 24/7; cardiology on call after hours
• RT available 24/7; RT equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula
• Remote telemetry techs available; unit has both hardwired and telemetry box capabilities — RNs must independently read and interpret tele strips
• RNs are required to titrate drips; common titratable medications include amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and other blood pressure management agents
• 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirement
• Floating required to same and lower acuity levels
• Charting in Epic (experience required)
• Manager-controlled scheduling; no block or self-scheduling

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 1 year of experience with cardiac/vascular stepdown or intermediate care patient population
• Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
• Experience reading and interpreting cardiac telemetry strips
• Experience titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips
• Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius)
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
• Candidates who are currently or were recently (within the past year) employed full-time, part-time, or PRN directly by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health, are not eligible — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• RNs are required to pass an open-book, pass/fail skills exam (minimum 90%) administered on the Friday of orientation; failure results in contract termination
• Unit-specific orientation is tailored to individual experience, typically 1–2 shifts
• RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
• First-time travelers are not explicitly excluded; experienced cardiac travelers are strongly preferred given the acuity
