American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week night shift Med/Surg Tele contract in Arizona, requiring active AZ or Compact RN licensure and telemetry strip interpretation skills.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg Telemetry unit on the 3rd floor of a hospital setting
• 49-bed unit with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio, supported by nurse aides (1:10–15 ratio) and monitor techs
• Patient population includes CHF, COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetics, telemetry, post-cath, and total joint replacement cases
• RNs are required to interpret telemetry strips and sign off at least once per shift
• Diltiazem/Cardizem drips are administered at a set rate (no titration required)
• Respiratory equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, and breathing treatments
• Charting is done in Cerner (experience strongly recommended given limited orientation time)
• 12-hour night shifts, 7pm–7am
• Every other weekend (EOW) required; approximately 2 weekends per 4-week schedule
• Holiday coverage required for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and Thanksgiving Day
• Travelers are first to float; floating may occur to the East Campus and possibly PCU (if qualified)
• No on-call or standby requirements

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required — pending licenses are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required — pending certifications are not accepted
• Experience reading and interpreting basic telemetry strips required
• Some experience with CVA and TIA preferred
• Total joint replacement nursing experience preferred
• Cerner EMR experience strongly recommended
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license is used to verify)
• Must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year (PRN through outside staffing firms is acceptable)
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Valid driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of 1 shift on the unit (12 hours total)
• Candidates must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam with a score of at least 80% before an offer can be confirmed; two attempts are allowed
• A pass/fail sterile technique test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on the first day of orientation
• Candidates who fail either the dysrhythmia or sterile technique exam on the second attempt will be ineligible for CommonSpirit Arizona positions for 6 months
• Unit is supported by both a charge nurse and house supervisor
• Self-scheduling is used, finalized by the manager on a 4-week cycle
• Required scrub color is navy blue
