American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Birth Care Suites unit in Wichita, KS, requiring at least 1 year of acute care L&D experience and working night shifts in a low-intervention, birthing center-style environment.

Details

• Located in a freestanding Birth Care Suites building separate from the main hospital campus
• 20-bed LDRP unit with 2 operating rooms serving low-risk patients ≥37 weeks gestational age
• Patient ratios of 1-2:1 for laboring patients and 3-4:1 for postpartum
• Night shift staffing includes 1 charge RN, 5 RNs, 1 surgical tech, and 1 admissions control tech
• Equipment includes GE fetal monitors, Monica Novii wireless monitors, and Alaris pumps
• EMR systems: CPN and Meditech
• Procedures include vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, NSTs, and circumcisions
• Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active Kansas (KS) or compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP (AAP Advanced 9th Edition), and intermediate or advanced AWHONN fetal monitoring (or NCCEFM)
• Minimum 1 year of recent acute care hospital L&D experience required
• US SSN and DOB required for consideration
• One professional reference required
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible

Additional Information

• Preferred experience includes OR circulating, labor positioning/Spinning Babies techniques, and managing OB emergencies
• Unit values 1:1 labor support, active labor positioning, and continuity of care from labor through postpartum
• A dedicated lactation RN team provides separate breastfeeding support
• Facility is a teaching hospital with residents and a dedicated anesthesia team covering women's services exclusively
• A hospitalist is available 24/7 for oversight and emergencies
• The unit delivers approximately 110–130 babies per month with a cesarean section rate averaging under 10%
• Nurse leader rounding, bedside shift report, and communication boards are standard practice on the unit
• Burgundy/maroon scrubs required
• Tenured nursing staff with strong teamwork culture and high patient experience scores
