American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) Stepdown position at a Level 1 Trauma facility in Omaha, NE, requiring cardiac telemetry experience and the ability to titrate drips.

• Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit (CVU) in an acute care, Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
• 18-bed unit serving intermediate care patients and downgraded CVICU patients, with heavy support for the thoracic program, EP, cath lab, and structural heart
• Common diagnoses include CVAs, CHF, A-fib RVR, cath lab, and other cardiac and vascular conditions
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
• Remote telemetry techs are available; RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips — unit has both hardwired tele and tele box capabilities
• RT is available 24/7; relevant equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula
• Charge nurse is present on each shift and rarely takes a patient assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care techs are available at a 1:18 ratio
• Hospitalist and intensivist are in-house 24/7; cardiology is on call after hours
• Charting via Epic (experience required)
• 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1900; nights available 1830–0700
• Schedule is manager-assigned; no block or self-scheduling
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Floating required to units of the same or lower acuity level

Requirements

• Active NE state RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required — pending certifications will not be accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with at least 1 year of experience with this specific cardiovascular/stepdown patient population
• Ability to independently read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
• Proficiency with Epic EMR required
• Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius)
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; permanent address on driver's license is used for verification
• Candidates may not currently be employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity; candidates who were employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• Orientation is tailored to individual experience, typically 1–2 shifts on the unit, with a pass/fail open-book exam on the Friday of orientation — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to comply will result to contract termination
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront for a 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
