American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Float Pool position requiring 5 years of experience, comfort floating across multiple acuity levels, and night shift availability with every other weekend coverage.

Details

• Acute care hospital float pool position covering multiple units including CCU (10 beds), IMC (30 beds), MS Level 7 (27 beds), MS Level 8 (48 beds), Skilled Care (33 beds), and ED (15 beds)
• Patient population includes NSTEMI, pneumonia, sepsis, diabetes, heart disease, diverticulitis, and other acute conditions
• Patient ratios vary by unit: CCU 1:2-3, IMC 1:4-6, MS Level 7 1:5-6, MS Level 8 1:5-8, Skilled Care 1:8-10
• Floating to ED or CCU is only expected if within the candidate's skillset
• Charting system: Cerner
• 12-hour night shifts, 3 shifts per week
• Every other weekend required
• May be included in holiday rotation
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Schedule is self-scheduled and made 4 weeks at a time; travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill gaps in permanent staffing
• Unit assignments are communicated via text message within 2 hours prior to shift start

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; ACLS is essential when working in CCU or ED
• Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
• ICU or ED experience preferred (minimum 1 year)
• Comfort managing patient ratios ranging from 1:2 to 1:10 across varying acuity levels
• Ability to titrate critical drips (e.g., Heparin) when assigned to CCU or ED
• Ability to troubleshoot respiratory equipment including vents, tracheostomies, BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen
• Ability to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips independently
• Copy of unexpired driver's license required for consideration
• Flexibility, adaptability, multi-functional expertise, and strong problem-solving skills required

Additional Information

• Ideal candidate is an ICU or stepdown traveler who is comfortable floating to lower acuity units
• Charge nurses are present on each shift and may take patient assignments as needed
• Nurse aides and patient care techs are available with ratios of approximately 1:7-15; duties include ADLs, vitals, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, call lights, and blood sugars
• Respiratory therapy is assigned across multiple units and manages breathing treatments and respiratory equipment; nurses are expected to troubleshoot equipment
• Monitor techs are available 24/7; nurses are expected to read and interpret telemetry, print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms
• Orientation consists of 1 day of general orientation and 1 day with a preceptor, limited to one unit before working independently
• Scrub color requirement: Navy Blue
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before being considered; cumulative time worked within WVU Medicine cannot exceed one year before a 2-year break is required
• A current skills checklist (completed within the past year), 2 references (including 1 supervisor reference), and copies of certifications and driver's license are required for consideration
