American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/HVU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring cardiac procedural recovery experience and SD or compact RN licensure for 12-hour night shifts.

Details

• Mixed acuity unit (Intermediate Care, Telemetry, and Med/Surg) within a 44-bed Heart and Vascular Unit (HVU)
• Patient population includes direct admits, ED admits, and post-cath lab patients with conditions such as MI, NSTEMI/STEMI, CHF, dysrhythmias, pacemaker malfunction, and epicardial pacers
• Also serves as a backup Stroke unit and Medical Overflow unit
• Step-down level care provided for post-cardiac/vascular, post-cardiac cath, post-open heart surgery, post-TAVR, post-EP studies, and post-pacemaker insertion patients
• RN-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4, adjustable to 1:3 based on acuity
• 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis (every other)
• Floating required primarily to the sister General PCU unit, with possible float to MS/Tele or ICU to cover PCU-level patients, always within scope of practice
• Charting via Epic; Alaris pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing used

Requirements

• Active RN license — SD license or compact RN license currently in hand required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 1.5 years of general nursing experience required
• PCU-level nursing experience required
• Experience with cardiac procedural recovery (CABG, TAVR, post-cardiac cath) required
• Experience with MI pharmacology and titratable cardiac/vasoactive drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levo, Dopamine) and Heparin drips required
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and chest tube management required
• TNK administration experience preferred
• Candidate must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
• Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provides mixed-acuity nursing care including intermediate care, telemetry monitoring, and med/surg-level care
• A telemetry tech oversees cardiac monitoring; RNs confirm strips at 6am and 6pm
• Unit support includes CNAs (ratio 1:5–8 depending on shift), an unassigned charge nurse, 24/7 respiratory therapy, on-site phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws, and a hospitalist in-facility 24/7
• No dedicated IV/VAT Team on unit; Resource Nurse available occasionally
• Orientation consists of 2 partial days of education followed by 3 12-hour shifts on the unit
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Free parking available on site
• First-time travelers are considered with 2 or more years of experience
• Permanent staff must wait 1 full year before returning to the facility as a traveler
• RTO may be approved up to 7 days; a full week off requires contract extension consideration
• No time off is approved during the first 3 weeks of August annually (Sturgis Bike Rally period)
