American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Adult Behavioral Health (Psych) position at a Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience.

• 24-bed Adult Behavioral Health unit at a 885-bed Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center
• Patient population consists of adults 18+ with diagnoses including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and suicidal ideation; unit may also include postpartum patients with complicating psychiatric diagnoses
• Open-concept day room unit serving all diagnoses; not a designated detox center, though some patients may be naturally detoxing
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
• Daily census averages 18–20 patients
• 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1900, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Floating may be required to the Pediatric Behavioral Health unit
• EMR: Epic (experience required); Encompass also used
• Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, seclusion room, restraint bed and restraint chair, and BiPAP/breast pumps for patients with comorbidities

Requirements

• Active NC RN license or a compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS and CPI certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Strong de-escalation and interpersonal communication skills required
• Experience with physical and medical restraints, medication administration, and clinical documentation required
• Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels
• Epic EMR experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

• Provides direct and indirect psychiatric patient care in accordance with the treatment team's established plan
• Develops therapeutic relationships with patients and family members through participation in treatment programs and group activities (running groups is not required)
• Robust unit support includes CNAs, Mental Health Technicians (MHTs), a Charge Nurse, Receptionist/HUC, Phlebotomy, Rapid Response Team, and 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalist coverage
• Orientation includes facility-wide NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Scheduling operates on a 6-week cycle
