American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Med/Surg Telemetry unit requiring orthopedic nursing experience and Epic proficiency, working 12-hour night shifts on a 13-week contract.

• Hospital Med/Surg Telemetry unit setting
• Patient population includes orthopedic, neuro spine, med/surg, and post-surgical cases
• Average daily census of 37 patients across 39 beds
• Expected nurse-to-patient ratio of 5-6:1, with flexibility up to 7:1 in extreme cases
• Ortho and spine patients require close attention to pain management
• 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), with options for 36 or 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend required; any weekend call-out must be made up on a weekend
• Block scheduling available (Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
• Floating required to other Med/Surg units within the facility based on census needs
• Epic EMR used; experience required
• 13-week contract length, with the possibility of extension beyond 13 weeks

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required (may be submitted with license/certs pending)
• Certifications required: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Orthopedic nursing experience required
• IV insertion and telemetry skills required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start
• Two professional manager/supervisor references from within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
• Preferred: ACLS certification, charge nurse experience, and Level I trauma experience

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are accepted provided they have Epic experience
• Candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays; no holiday RTO will be approved
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, provided it does not fall on a holiday and is not during the first week of the assignment (orientation week)
• Weekly orientation provided; 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules required for acute care roles
• Former permanent, PRN, or EP employees of this health system must wait 12 months before being eligible to apply as a traveler
• Travel pairs are allowed, but each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
• Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a reduced rate
• RTO after booking cannot be approved or arranged onsite; excessive call-outs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation
