Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position requiring at least 2 years of experience, telemetry skills, and an NC or compact RN license for 12-hour night shifts.

Details

• Hospital Med/Surg unit with an isolation area for COVID patients and access to stepdown-level care managed by stepdown staff
• Patient population includes dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, and other typical Med/Surg diagnoses
• Patient ratio of 1:5–6
• 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
• 13-week minimum contract with potential for extension
• Weekend requirement of 12–16 shifts per contract
• Floating to other units is required
• EMR: Epic (preferred); medication dispensing via Pyxis; communication protocol: SBAR
• Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and could be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters; mid-contract unit reassignment is possible

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required (may be submitted with license pending)
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Required skills: Med/Surg, remote telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, use of Rapid Response Team, IV insulin protocols, colostomy care, feeding tube care and management, pre/post hemodialysis management, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care and management, phlebotomy, PICC line management, starting IVs, heparin, PCA, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start
• Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 12 months are highly preferred; references required by start date

Additional Information

• Preferred skills and experience: MS/Tele, on-unit telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia management, port access, insulin management, CVA, surgical drains, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy management, and Epic EMR experience
• Orientation includes a full week of hospital orientation (classes required each day) plus 24 hours of unit orientation; no RTO is permitted during the first week due to orientation
• 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are required and must be completed annually
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved automatically as long as it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
• Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Former permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before being considered for a traveler assignment
• Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a different pay rate
• Scrub colors: navy and white
• Travel pairs are welcome, though each traveler must have their own transportation and be flexible with different schedules
