American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med Surg ICU position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of recent ICU experience and active NE or Compact RN licensure.

• Acute care setting in a Med Surg ICU (MS ICU) at a Level I Trauma Center serving as the primary tertiary hospital for its system
• 34-bed unit serving adult and pediatric patients (15 years and older)
• Patient population includes neuro surgery, respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure (CRRT), general surgery, psych/OD, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1-2 (ICU), 1:4-5 (PCU), and 1:5-6 (MS)
• RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
• Common procedures and monitoring include CVPs, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll-Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser — training available for these in real time
• Respiratory therapy equipment ranges from nasal cannula to ventilators; RNs are not required to manage beyond troubleshooting
• Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry monitoring — no monitor techs; RNs must be able to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour day and night shifts available (0630–1830 and 1830–0630); schedule is manager-assigned based on unit needs
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other, based on unit needs
• Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
• Required certifications (all must be active; pending not accepted): BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility — a valid driver's license is required for consideration and will be used to verify permanent address
• Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• An interview with unit leaders is required as part of the selection process
• Unit orientation consists of 2 unit-specific shifts, plus a pass/fail open-book skills exam administered on the Friday of orientation week — a minimum score of 90% is required to pass; failure results in contract termination
• Nurse aides/patient care techs are available on the unit at a 1:18 ratio; charge nurses attend rapid response teams (RRTs) and codes but may carry an assignment
• Collaborative team environment working alongside attendings, fellows, and residents in a fast-paced, high-volume setting
• Successful candidates demonstrate strong critical thinking, adaptability, a positive attitude, and a willingness to collaborate
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to comply may result in contract termination
• RTO of 7 or fewer days for the 13-week contract must be disclosed upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
• First-time travelers are not explicitly welcomed — 2 years of recent ICU experience is required
